I took off on very short notice this past Tuesday to help my friend and her 13-month old daughter pack up and drive from Maine To Maryland. Her husband was kind enough to get me "stowaway" status on a private plane, much to the alarm of my aeronautcally-savvy hubby. I was pretty calm about flying before I sought the opinion of hubby on the type of plane I'd be flying in..."Oh, you're gonna hate that shitbox. It only has one engine" he says! Well I don't know squat about planes, despite his best efforts to educate me on the topic, so I became a little uptight about the mathematics involved in plane propulsion. Very simple concept for a newbie like myself....one engine fails on a single engine plane = speedy descent accompanied by hasty Hail Mary's and ending with your in-flight peanuts floating in the Atlantic. Thank you Oscar for your pre-flight boost of confidence . He was just jealous that he wasn't invited!
Alas, the trip was a sucess and I have posted some pictures from the trip here. Every year we travel to Maine and each time I am amazed at the beauty of the coastline and friendliness of the Mainers. If you haven't been you shouldn't miss it!
Single engine flying is a little too adventurous for me.
